Sight Saving DIATON Through the Eyelid Tonometer Draws Attention at International Vision Expo VEE 2015, Jacob Javits Center, New York

Sight saving Non-Contact Diaton tonometry reveals new glaucoma screening options to optometrists and other eye care professionals to evaluate intraocular pressure THROUGH THE EYELID. Diaton tonometer is accurate and effective digital tonometer in obtaining IOP measurements for challenging patient populations and children.

Diaton Tonometer provides quick, painless and reliable measurements and makes it possible to diagnose glaucoma in its early stages, allowing users to devise an appropriate care and treatment plan. Diaton is effective in obtaining IOP measurements for many challenging patient populations, including: those with chronic conjunctivitis, erosions, edema and corneal dimness; people who have undergone corneal surgeries; and immobilized patients and children. Also, patients do not need to remove their contact lenses.

Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc., said, – “Presenting Diaton tonometer at International Vision Expo West East at Jacob Javits Center, New York is a great opportunity to showcase unique non-corneal and non-contact capabilities of this new tonometry technology to thousands of optometrists and other eye care professionals.”

Since DIATON is non-contact and pen-like handheld tonometer, it can be used in any setting – on missions to rural areas that desperately need glaucoma screening or Inpatient & Outpatient Clinics such as Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Nursing & Elderly Homes, General, Family & Specialty Practitioners office as well as Ophthalmic and Optometric practice.

Major Benefits of Diaton Tonometer:

  • No contact with the cornea (only upper eyelid)
  • No anesthesia drops
  • No risk of infecting or scratching cornea
  • No consumables (no need to purchase replacement tips/covers..etc.,)
  • No sterilization
  • No pachymetry needed (no need to adjust for CCT or other corneal parameters)
  • No daily calibration needed (easy tonometer maintenance)
  • Handheld / Portable + Easy to use

Diaton Tonometer is beneficial in many cases: patients with corneal pathology, severe corneal injuries, corneal apoptosis, large pterygium, recurrent ocular surgeries, refractive surgeries, keratoplasty and keratoprosthetics (Boston KPro Type 1), patients with eye infection, allergic reactions, blepharospams sufferers (i.e. dystonia of the eyelid sufferers), dry eye syndrome, immobilised patients or with mobility problems, contact lenses wearers (no need to remove contact lenses) and without frightening children.

Diaton Tonometer will be jointly showcased in BOOTH # MS7055 by BiCOM Inc., and Optimetrics Inc., Florida’s largest Hispanic Ophthalmic Leader. In Support of World Glaucoma Week 2015 Glaucoma Eye IOP Test DIATON Tonometer Team Sets Up Glaucoma Awareness and Screening Events

Glaucoma is a leading cause of preventable blindness.  BiCOM Inc. with its Non-Corneal and Through-the-Eyelid DIATON Tonometer is challenging the “Sneak Thief of Sight” through awareness and screening events.  BiCOM is advising and guiding all of its distributors located in over 60 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Middle East to participate in the World Glaucoma Week on March 8th-15th through Screening and Awareness campaigns.

Since IntraOcular Pressure  (IOP) is one of the major risk factors for developing Glaucoma, early detection is the key to preventing blindness.

World Glaucoma Week is a joint initiative between the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association and has had a highly successful run for the past 7 years.

Throughout the year BiCOM Inc., and Diaton tonometer Team hold free screening events in conjunction with Department of Transportation (DOT), Lions Clubs International, Health Action Groups, Corporate health fairs, assists in remote screening missions as well as independent screening events at churches, synagogues and shelters.

Handheld Diaton Tonometer is ideal for mass screening because it is quick, painless and non-invasive procedure. The measurement is taken Through-the-Eyelid with no corneal contact, requiring no anesthesia and having no risk of infecting the eye.

For the 7th consecutive World Glaucoma Week, BiCOM Inc will be holding various screening awareness events throughout New York as well as internationally throughout its network of Diaton Tonometer distributors and cooperating partners.

Diaton Tonometer is intended for use by Inpatient & Outpatient Clinics such as Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Nursing & Elderly Homes, General & Specialty Practitioners as well as Ophthalmologists and Optometrists.

60 million Americans are at RISK for developing Glaucoma. Glaucoma is usually symptomless and vision loss is irreversible. Often people experience loss of peripheral (side) vision first and compensate for this loss by turning their head.

Globally, 60.5 million had glaucoma in 2010. Given the aging of the world’s population, this number may increase to almost 80 million by 2020. Glaucoma costs the U.S. economy $2.86 billion every year in direct costs and productivity losses.

Prevent Blindness America Survey estimates that over 4 million Americans have glaucoma, but only half of those know they have it. It is important to get the eye pressure (IOP) checked at least once a year. Glaucoma is 6 to 8 times more common in African-Americans than Caucasians. With early detection, medications and surgeries can be used to prevent further vision loss.

Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc., stated, – “I would like to reiterate that early detection is most important and everyone should get screened, but early detection is only a first step.  My company (BICOM Inc.,) is consistently investing into research and development of new technologies and currently sponsors a number of research projects in the field of blindness prevention due to glaucoma and a number of other eye diseases.”

Because Glaucoma is leading cause of Blindess in the United States, and loss of vision is usually peripheral at first, many do not realize they have the “sneak thief of sight” before the damage has been done, therefore it is important to see your eyecare professional on regular bases and have your intraocular (eye) pressure IOP checked.

SECO 2015 is Optometry’s Marketplace at SECO™ and is The Education Destination®, optometry’s most important and compelling annual event. The SECO 2015 program of education, exhibits and events offers optometrists and allied ophthalmic professionals the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to remain competitive in today’s challenging optometric field.

SECO 2015 is an opportunity for optometrists and optometric technicians and assistants to obtain free training and to learn of the clinically proven benefits of Diaton (trans-palpebral, non-corneal) tonometer at Vision Systems (VSI) Booth #1009 and #925.
